Great....so glad to see this web site! Look forward to seeing it grow, as there is just so much history in the town and County.

I have deed to farm in Sugar Grove dated 1805. One of my relatives was born Rufus K. Williams on April 17, 1806 and married Elizabeth Tomas on 12/2/1837. Have family records after early 1800's, but nothing before that. Any suggestions on how to search for information.

Harman-Crabtree - family research. I am currently trying to get information on my great-grandmother - Minnie Harman b. 1866-67 married to John H. Crabtree. She is said to have been born out of wedlock to Hezekiah Harman b. 1829 (lived in Smyth County) and "Emily" Moore (per grandma in 1960) - who I believe may have been Lockie Jane Groseclose - trying to confirm. Attempting to Find Lockie married to "Robert" (per 1960's conv. with grandma) but I believe was John Kinder b. 1832. My grandfather was Hezekiah Harman Crabtree (later Harmon Hezekiah Crabtree) b. 1894 in Tazewell County, Virginia. He received land from Grandma Kinder and sold it to 1/2 owner "Mr. Cox" in 1915. I believe this land would have been in Sharon, Bland, VA.

To Christine Lommerse: My husband is a Gillespie from Chilhowie. Maybe he can help you. Who are some of the Gillespies you are interested in knowing about?
